Pickleball Peeves

Pickleball Peeves

While pickleball provides an excellent opportunity to enjoy time being active with old friends and new friends alike, there are a few things that can be annoying when playing. Here’s our short list of three things that make us go hmmm.

  • You’re playing the best game of your life when all of a sudden you swing and fully whiff the ball. How, you might ask? A weird bounce or a gust of wind gets you. This can lead to laughter, frustration, or even both. But, new and old pickleball players understand that this just comes with the territory. That’s just Mother Nature laughing while you plan. We follow one of our favorite shows’ mottos when playing, CBS’ Big Brother – “Expect the Unexpected”.

  • Pickleball is popular, so most of the time when you play there will be other people either playing next to you or waiting for your court. Concentrating isn’t always easy.  Remember that chatting with someone on the sidelines is like making a phone call during a movie.  It’s rude.  And, running onto someone’s court to retrieve a ball mid-volley is just unacceptable.  So, when you’re playing, remember to “be where our feet are,” and enjoy the game.

  • It never fails, you are mid-point and your paddle grip is sweaty, your skirt is riding up, or your pickleball sticks to the net. Just another added speedbump to this game we love so much.  So, wipe your paddle down between points, pull your wedgy out, and be easy on the net, they are all different.

And, despite all of this, pickleball remains one of the best ways to spend a few hours.  And, overcoming these little quirks makes victory all the more satisfying, and defeat is just another reason to play again.
